Beware of False Knowledge
“Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance.”
George Bernard Shaw
Starting this blog with a quote of the famous Irish author and activist George Bernard Shaw could be seen as a little strange, particularly for a food based blog and for a chef. Well GBS was a famous vegetarian and social reformer who's quotes could fill a page and a half, his most famous or infamous quote was the perennial;
“There is no sincerer love than the love of food”
How ever the title quote really sums up were we stand with the issue of modern food, human Heath and the future health and sustainability of life on this planet. That is how inter woven food is into our civilisation, it can and could be the death of us. Yet what is the truth when it comes to food, human health, ethics and the planet? There are at last count maybe six billion different opinions, one for every person on the planet earth. Yet it would appear that the real truth around food is often twisted and turned, generally at the whims of the people selling the food and by the people eating it. I am no conspiracy theorist, but put simply; where there is money there is greed, where there is greed there is dishonesty.
Most interestingly George Bernard Shaw was a Fabian. The Fabian Society was founded in Edwardian England as a socialist movement whose symbol was a tortoise. The tortoise encapsulated the idea of slowly and relentlessly moving forward to achieve a goal. The Society itself was named after the Roman general Quintus Fabius Maximus who fought off the invading Hannibal using the tactics of a rolling skirmishes or guerrilla warfare to defeat a vastly superior enemy.
That is the point of this blog, not to become a militant in your face Vegan, but to accept that most people eat animal based foods and there is no way that this will change in the foreseeable future. What I want to achieve from this blog is to generate awareness and give tasty delicious plant based options that might just change the way people think about and view their breakfast, lunch and dinner.. No one likes to be told what to do, in fact this approach strengthens the resolve to do the opposite. Change the way of thinking and you'll change everything.
